Featured Whole30'er: Casey

Why did you do your first Whole30?

I simply stumbled upon the Whole9 website looking for Paleo recipes and thought it would be 'fun' to try.

What was your experience with the last Whole30 you completed?

It definitely had its ups and downs, recently my roommate informed me that I drove her crazy during my Whole30. I have to admit the first week, I was a flat out cranky 'B'. All I wanted was a cookie, and not just any cookie, a Tom Thumb snicker doodle… I actually had to avoid driving by Tom Thumb's! But by the end of the first week, I noticed that my skin started to have the same “just after a chemical peel glow” but I hadn’t done any treatments, and, the dark circles under my eyes were lighter. Weight loss was not the goal of my Whole30 but I ended up losing 5 lbs and 2% body fat.

Why are you doing another Whole30?

I have fallen way off the Paleo wagon and need a jump-start. Mostly I want to feel/look better: I am way too dependent on caffeine, my Psoriasis has flared up again, and in general I feel tired/lethargic. Also, I want to kick some butt at the HyVee 5150 championships this year!

What advice do you have for folks who are doing their first Whole30?

There will be times that it is going to suck, and it will suck bad. Be sure to have friends, family, and co-workers on board, your success depends on it! Planning and being prepared are essential—you will need to devote an afternoon once a week (I always did Sunday) to prep meals for the week. Also, be sure to take before and after pictures it will keep you motivated!
